More Cam issues. GRRRR

Recap, doing engine build with e6 heads, fresh 30 over bore, waiting on machine shop. I discovered the cam that was given to me had some numbers stamped on it. 0209 and i believe also 143 Now what I found so far on the web "googlin" 0209 says Small Block ****ty, I mean %^evy. Any help on this? They look close with eyeball but the numbers are very different from cam to cam

very confused.

1. why run e6 heads?? those are probably one of the worst heads you could use especially when E7's are so redily available and an upgrade.

2 the numbers you provided dont make any sense. are you running a new cam or a used cam. when it comes to a flat tappet cam i would not run something used. especially with all the effort/time/money you are putting into a new motor.

its a roller cam, Cam that was in the truck was junk. I friend had this "302" cam and it has the letter A stamped by the Distributor gear. I know the firing order is different, but we can change that. The CAM in Question has the "A" stamped by the distributor gear and those numbers stamped on the back end of the camshaft. I do not know the history on it, nice lobes, no rust. He was giving me the used CAM to try and save me on cost. I am way over budget, but was committed. I dont want to spend 250-300 additional on a CAM... If i HAD to i would, just got more into this than planned

Using those seriously restrictive E6 heads when you have a decent set of E7's sitting right there is a bad idea, but whatever. Using an unknown freebie camshaft on top of it is a REALLY bad idea. There are SO MANY different grinds out there for a small block Ford that it would be nearly impossible to know exactly what you are getting or what you'll end up with. There are MAJOR differences in the grinds and you could have serious performance problems if you use one that is incompatible with the rest of the engine package, the vehicle, and the intended usage. It may barely run at all. I know you're short in the budget department and that's fine. Many of us are. You can still build a decent motor on the cheap by shopping smart and being patient. Look around on eBay for a nice, used cam from either an Explorer 5.0L or an '87-'92 5.0L HO. The Explorer cam will be identical to the rusty roller billet you pulled out of the '95 block and would work great. They almost give them away on eBay. The HO cam would work just as well and would probably wake it up a little bit without killing the torque. They can usually be had for less than $50. Couple either of those with a decent set of E7's and you'll have an engine that is equivalent to or slightly stouter than what came out of it.

+1000 on what BlueOvalRage said.

You may never figure out exactly who made that cam but you can get an idea what specs it has with some simple measuring tools, namely a degree wheel and dial gauge. If you don't have those maybe ask a local engine shop to measure it for you, at least then you'll know if it's at all suitable to your task or not.
I also scored an F4TE(Explorer) cam from Ebay last year pretty cheap, can't remember the exact amount right now but I thought it was under $100.

Yep, try and measure. Even a cheap calipher will give you an idea of what the lift is.
Paul, how do you like that 264XE cam?

It's a great cam for the motor.. too bad it's not enough motor for the truck. The 5.0 needs more gearing.. all these things should have come with 3.73's minimum.

UPDATE GUYS: Found me a BRAND NEW, IN THE BOX "MAHLE" by clevite cam.. got it for a great price, not free but now my worries are over. I had bad feelings in the back of my mind about using an unknown cam. I trust the guy it came from, just dont know the specifics on it. Got a New one, a VERY GOOD friend of mine owns a parts store, he needed a favor as did I
