while I was at the dealer, the service writer asked me why my exhaust tips were so black. I told him that I'm pretty sure there's a crack in the DPF. He asked if I wanted it fixed and I told him I wasn't worried about it. He then told me that sometimes this will lead to the truck going into limp mode because the downstream sensor overheats or clogs up or something. (which I've not heard of on here) I still told him not to worry about it because it seems to regen less like that. But he did offer to make sure I had the latest reflash (which I apparently didn't because they did one). I think they told ford I complained of excessive regen to get it under warranty, and now I think it shifts alittle quicker yet smoother.(which is nice) Anyone heard of the cracked DPF causing limp mode issues?

I don't know about the limp mode but I can tell you when my cracked DPF was replaced I lost about 12% of the meliage I was getting and it has stayed that way the last 30,000 miles.

sounds like an old wives tail. They must need more work and will even do stuff under warranty for some business.

that's what I'm afraid of. I get about 14 mpg daily driving and that's better than most of the people post on here.

Wish it was like that here, however it's the exact opposite.
