First off, if this has been asked before did try to search and could not find it.
My Buddy has a 08 f-250 with just under 70,000 miles on it. When I was looking over his truck I noticed that his exhaust tip was black. When I asked about re-gens he said that they do not happen very often, which he was happy about. What we are wondering is, if the truck has a leaking DPF and does not re-gen will it put him into limp mode? He and his wife are full timing in their Fifth Wheel and I would hate to see him get stuck in the middle of nowhere while on the road.
Thanks and I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas and Santa is nice.
Happened to me at 56k. Black tips, regens were spuratic and when it did regen, it was for a prolonged period. Took it in to the local dealer and diagnosed a cracked DPF. Replaced, a little better fuel mileage and it took about 60 days for the pipes to turn back to off white.
