I smell fuel

Tried searching decided to be lazy and post my truck problem

Started smelling fuel in the cabin a couple days ago. pretty strong when poking around under the hood. Can't see anything leaking anywhere.

Check the area around fuel filter and pump. all appear dry. How to I find the leak before it leaves me stranded.

Power is good and runs great.

Drain Valve

I would take a good look at the drain valve on the back of the fuel bowl, the O-rings usually fail there. Mine i sleaking there now, I have the Blue O-rings from Guzzle, just need to get them installed to fix it.

I would second that it is the fuel valve or fuel separator valve. Try a search with those words as I was able to down load the photos and changed my O-rings. I bought mine in a little kit from one of the vendors but all I really needed was the O-rings. My brothers 7.3 did the same thing.

I agree with above, the fuel drain valves are notorious for leaking after the ULSD.
Do you see any fuel in the valley? If you find fuel and cannot figure out where it is coming from, clean it up and get it dry.Start looking for fresh fuel. Can you see fuel coming down the bell housing and under the truck? There is a fuel line behind the passenger side head.

How's your coolant look and smell? Fuel in the coolant (from a cracked injector cup) will cause a fuel smell in the cab.

I'd like to add a vote for the fuel bowl drain. I just had my o-rings go out on my drain and had a diesel smell in the cab that was rather strong. It was barely dipping at idle rite down into the v on the engine and down the back by the bellhousing.

I got the whole new drain from Guzzle with the blue o-rings.

I was going to start a thread on this very subject but I'll throw this out to yaa. Its too late now but o-rings are fairly cheap but when people drain their fuel bowls of contaminates and possible moisture, have the motor up to temps before you drain. I've been doing this for years and never had a problem with fuel related o-ring problems.

Well, went poking around last night (with a flash light) and it was wet above the drain valve. I tightened the fuel filter cap and it seems to be better today. Only a whiff and that's probably from residual. Keeping finger crossed.
