My 91 Ford Ranger 4.0 EFI has a strong fuel smell when I first start it up. There is gas on the manifold around the Fuel pressure Regulator but I can't seem to see where it is leaking from. After I drive it for awhile and it gets hot the fuel and smell disappears. Any Ideas what could be the problem? Thanks Ron.
Hello Ronson,
Sounds like the regulator is bad, sometimes you can remove the vacuum hose from it and if fuel is present this is a sign it is bad.( Engine off ) The reguator does what it's name is , it regulates the fuel pressure, and if one is not bad and you remove the vacuum hose from it while the engine is running, you should hear a change in idle speed.( It should rev up ). Be careful, hot motor and fuel is not a good combination...Good luck Ronson, and Welcome to FTE, keep us posted on what you find....
