looking at buying an excursion

i came across an excursion that has everything im looking for, white/tan paint with tan leather interior. perfect condition (from the pics), its 4x4, limited, etc. i want a 7.3, but cant afford that right now. so im settling for a v10. my dads 01 excursion is a v10 and i drive it alot, so im used to it and fine with that motor.

this one is a 2000 limited 4x4, the small dealer selling it says its a 1 owner truck, looks to be true becuase like i said its pretty clean, only thing - has 203k miles.

they're asking $8,500, which i think is too much for a 10 year old truck with 203k miles.

what would you guys offer on this, and how much longer do you think the motor/tranny has? if i had to guess (waiting on my friend with a carfax report) i'd bet it was owned by an older couple, and used for trips. prally was never taken offroad, etc.. unless they just did a really good job cleaning it up lol.

anyways, heres the truck- if i get it, the first thing on the list would be window tint, remove pinstripe, and then 05 front end

thats alotta miles, but if it was taken care of there are plenty of guy around here with over 200k. i agree the price is pretty high i could not see spending more then $5,500 on somthing with that many miles as it will most likely need some maint items.

check if theres any records for recent work done, balljoints/frontend parts. make sure theres no exhaust leaks at the manifolds as the studs have a issue of breaking. otherwise the V10 is a pretty rock solid drivetrain.

keep your eye out though, there are good low mile ones out there. allthought you have to be half lucky to find them haha

goodluck!

In October I managed to find a 7.3 with 154,000 miles on it for $7,800.00.

I started by changing all of the fluids and filters in it and since then have been fixing the things wrong with it. Door lock actuators, stabilizer links, driver door courtesy light lense. Next to do will be driver and passenger bottom seat cushion cover followed by driver and passenger towing mirrors.

I have not worked on an Excursion before but this web site has been wonderfull. I decide on my next project and search the forum on the item. So far I have always found what I needed to spend a Saturday working on my truck.

That's a nice looking truck!

Fyi, it's fully loaded for the 2000 model year...I'm not sure on price, but what I am sure of is that they're asking a little much.

ok i just got an autocheck done on this vin, says 1 owner, not really any warranty work on it, but there was 2 accidents, one in 2005 in Michigan, and one in 2006 in Tennessee.

i looked at a white excursion IDENTICAL to this about 8 months ago, and i remember it having 2xx,xxx miles.... i ran the car fax and i think it had been in a wreck but i also remember it had a rebuilt title, but this title reads clean.. i think i found the vin of that one i was looking at, im running a report in it, to see if its the one i was thinking of. i hope this isnt the same truck

i remember that white one from like 8 months ago originated in michigan or illinois or something...

I would ship it,or offer 5k. There asking more than if it was a diesel.

Keep looking you'll find one.

Here's one with 80k miles for 13k$

Personally I would walk away, I just traded my 2000 in and when I bought her I only paid $4000 for it. I had approx the same mileage as that one with mine sitting at 300,000KM I drove it for 39,000km and traded it in for $5000.

I have replaced the 2000 with the 2004 Diesel Excursion but start looking online more in AutoTrader. I was about to buy one down south until I found this one here in Canada a few hours drive north of me. I just really didnt want to drive my Land Rover down to the States Buy a new Ex south, get a trailer, drop the Rover on the back and haul *** back to Canada cause over here there so much more money cause we cant get good clean ones here.

I just got lucky with mine, the new one is a single owner who Ironically Bought his from FL new in 2004, imported it in 2004 to Canada and has been here with the one guy since. (paperwork to prove it) Hasnt been in one accident, all stock, and only 107,403 miles. I paid $24,495 less my trade in after taxes and trade truck set me back $22,400. Out the door.

Keep your eyes peeled there are lots of them out there and DONT Ever Act like you want to buy it more than they want to sell it!! The one I bought here normally sells for $31,000 CDN .

Any who my two cents dont buy her run specially if the two accidents are there run!!! thats a 5k truck all day long!!

In early 2010, I paid $8,500 for what sounds to be the same except mine is 2wd. Mine had 114k miles.

Think about those miles in terms of years. In my case, @ 12k miles per year, it will take me about 7 years to get to over 200k miles.

Now, think about how many miles will be on yours in 5 years.

Personally, I would not bother with anything over 150k miles. Probably even less. There are still good EX's to be had at under $10k with much closer to 100k miles.

I can see some of these comments but i don't agree with all of them. I think the v10 is a strong platform and as long as normal maintenance has been done you should be good for awhile. Make sure about ball joints, 4wd hubs and exhaust studs. Those are the three biggest pains. None of them are real expensive if you do the work yourself just time consuming. Well the studs could be a pia. For example, I picked up a 00 limited with 207k and I paid 5k for it. It needed ball joints and will need studs. I did the ball joints last weekend and after the first side was done I flew through the second side.

A couple things I considered. An Ex will not be sold for less than 5k usually, no matter the mileage. If you picked up an Ex with 200k and drove it for 30k before having to replace the motor then put another 3k for a new motor you have an Excursion that is paid for plus now you have a brand new motor so it's almost starting over. If you are a person that holds on to vehicles for a long time, and can turn a wrench now and then, I think it's the smarter money decision in the long haul. Are you taking a chance with a 200k mile vehicle, yeah but what if that v10 holds out till 300k, your money ahead. This was my thought process for buying my 00 with high miles. Hope this makes sense and helps. Good Luck
