possible trans or tc

ok im driving down the road and ill slightly push the gas to accelerate some to pass and my truck downshifts were before i could accelerate in 5th gear without it downshifting. but it never had downshifted when i barely pushed the pedal down. im confused by this. and if this helps it is slow to engage into drive when i shift it. trans fluid is pink mostly smells ok any thoughts or ideas?

what year is the truck , and what engine and tranny do you have ? more info the better for some one to help !

its a 2000 ranger with a 3.0 im not sure of the trans id have to check that ill have that up soon its raining

Sounds like it's more likely to be the trans. Try not using overdrive. Only use overdrive while cruising, not for accelerating.

well thats wht i do its an automatic trans and it for the most part it has a mind of its own it seems tho as i push the gas sometimes i can tell when the tc locks and wont down shift but then theres others were im just normal driving and it will down shift at the slight change of the pedal
