I've seen some different versions of adapter to plumb heated water into intake manifold. Versions of the adapter were metal. I'm wondering if phenolic plastic would also work? I know that stuff is used on other intakes, so I'm thinkin'.......? Inquiring minds n' such.
Heated water into intake manifold ? . Is this for cold start issues ?. I'm in the middel of installing a manual choke on mine. Never heard of heated water to the intake.
I would think that if you can put phenolic on top of the intake for a carb spacer, it should be able to go on the bottom. The only difference would be physical contact with coolant, but I can't see that being an issue.
It would need to be thick enough that you can torque it up for a water-tight seal. It would be pretty close to the exhaust, not sure how it could handle the heat.
I'm not ready to change manifolds just yet so I'm unsure of space measurement between rear manifold and adapter. Maybe AB can help with that. Phenolic plastic is fire resistant and heat resistant(up to a point). I'm thinking thickness would have to be ½"/more.
I'm not able to measure anymore, since I don't have the old manifold, but the picture shows there's a pretty reasonable distance between the exhaust manifolds and the plate.
Makes sense that it'd have to be thick enough to not break under the torque necessary to seal it.
AB....you don't have the vehicle in photo anymore? That pic shows rear manifold and adapter.....that is the measurement I was meaning. Hard to tell from pic but looks like maybe 2" or more....
I do, but I've since replaced the log intake with an Offenhauser 4bbl. I bought it used and the previous owner found some bizarre reason to weld the underside closed. Had to find a different means of heating it after that. Makes the setup completely different. =/
oic...k I'll cross that bridge measurement when I come to it. I'm thinking I want to keep the OE intake but modify it to accept a 2bb carb. I can find an old intake for $20 or so for testing at the machine shop and see what can be done as far as opening the throat up some, but for now all is speculation. Don't want offy/clifford intake. Thanks
