I'm leaking diesel!!! I have a 2002 F-250 with a 7.3 Power Stroke. Its puddling on the manifold and leaking to the ground. The smell is pretty strong. Someone suggested it was the o-rings on the fuel bowl draincock. I asked about this awhile ago, but the problem stopped, so I forgot about it. Since it started getting cold, the leak is back, maybe worse. Does anyone have a clue what I'm talking about? Can you guys give me some info. Thanks in advance!
Per my experience 10-years mark is pretty common when lot of seals and orings are giving up.
I replaced drain valve orings this spring, now I have oil cooler orings to replace. The front seals seems to get wet as well.
So stash some money, since those things are not cheap even DIY.
You have to get some special o-rings for the yellow drain lever. Seemed to only leak in cold weather for me.
They are Viton 202 o-rings. They are not available in small quantities, you probably have to order a bunch.
I went to a local viton distributor (google one for your region) and bought 6 for something like 5 bucks. They couldn't sell them to me, but they accepted a donation to their charity fund.
Repair is super easy, just drain fuel bowl, remove small bolts, and replace.
you might have some luck getting them here. Ford will RAPE you if you go to them for a valve assembly.
Good luck
Well, I replaced the o-rings for the fuel bowl drain, and I still am getting a diesel leak. Its not the drain **** leaking, I checked. Any experts out there that can give me an idea of where to look next?
Wash the engine and than line up the valley and all suspicious areas with paper towels. Start the engine and observe for wet marks on the towels. If none -take the truck for short drive and keep on checking.
another possible leak, can be the 2-fuel rail lines that run on the inside of the valley, on the passenger side block. The "hold down" clamp, has a decency of rubbing a hole into the hardline.
