When I bought it, there were two tool boxes on either side. Also a pocket for tall gas tanks on the drivers side. At the front of the bed, there is no diamond plate in the middle where a generator/welder was mounted.
I need a flat uninterrupted bed so I can load and strap down this:
Boxes had to come out... This one was stubborn and I had to jury rig pieces of scrap, bricks and a floor jack to lever it out. Turns out they're really heavy...
The guy I bought the truck from had a length of C-channel that he had made the bed sides of. I bought it with the truck. The local metal yard had some 1/8" diamond plate remnants, I picked up three pieces that are just the right size. I also picked up some apparently heavy duty steel galvanized ramps. We'll see how heavy duty they really are...

That looks safe, OSHA will have your butt if that was a jobsite!
i think i would of bought i trailor, left the boxes on for tools, torch, welder, and other parts needed to fix the other ride when needed. i am interested to see how it fits on there and the final pics.
I saw a show on Trucks where they put air bags on the back end of the truck that lowered the back end low enough where a fabed tailgate was the ramp. no messing with ramps and locks jeep in. Be nice to have compressed air on that rig anyways to run tools. I'm just saying.
the space left by taking the boxes out look like good tire stops...or whatever you call them. pull up far enough so the front (or rear) tires fall in the holes and strap er down. probably a better way but thats the first thing that popped in my head
Chris... I know I know. That's why I had to take a picture of it. The more precarious it got, the more I was laughing as I jacked it up.
kccat, I seriously thought about a trailer but as it is, backing the truck into my narrow steep driveway is barely done, not only that but I wouldn't have any place to store a truck AND a trailer. Additionally, a truck only will have better access into and out of the trails. My jeep has a huge tool box in the back already for trail repairs. Although, I am planning on horizontal tool boxes under the bed later. I was able to use the vertical boxes that were there for outside work area tool storage in my yard.
jirwin,...I'll have to look that up. Great, you have me looking into another mod already lol.
Bama, I was thinking the same thing, I think they may be too far forward though with the stinger on the jeep keeping it back a bit.. I really want the Jeep facing forward so the weight of the engine is more towards the middle of the truck. Facing backwards might put a lot of weight hanging over the rear axle and make the front end light.
CSIPSD: I was wondering. They couldn't tell me the load rating on them. I told them I'd be bringing them back if they failed. I might not use full lengths. I can have fairly short/steep ramps with the clearance the jeep has. They'll be a lot stronger in that configuration. I'm thinking of the airbag idea now though..... Air..... i remember that episode, i think they used an old military truck and loaded a suzuki on the back. anything is possible, i am not questioning your project, just very interested in how it turns. are you going to have to stretch the frame on the truck? good luck and keep us informed.
The prior owner already stretched the frame then doubled it before fabbing the bed. The bed is 14 feet long. It was owned and built by a structural steel guy.
Yes that episode was on Extreme 4X4. It was an old military 6X6 that they bobbed the rear end and built the bed for it. The tailgate became the ramp once the rig was lowered.

You can also throw a hinged leg on them to help... Something easy to fold up...
Been thinking about adding a down sloping addition that the jeep could climb up on. I might only use a portion of one of the ramps for a traction surface.
