71 F250

I am thinking of picking up a 71 F250 that is for sale nearby, the oldest truck I have experience with is the dentsides. Anyways I have some questions for the more experienced. It is a one owner truck whose owner passed away and the family wants to sell it. The truck is a 2wd with the 4sp manual.

1. This truck has had a cabover camper on it pretty much its whole life, would this cause any issues that I should check?

2. I intend to use it on hunting trips and flat tow my suzuki when going on these trips, approx 250 km. Any reason why this truck wouldn't be a good choice, other than ride quality and fuel economy?

3. Any general problem areas known to these trucks, such as frame cracks, body rust, etc?

4. The vin is F25YCL with 5 digits after that (don't want to post the actual whole VIN because it's not mine yet). From what I gather from reading this forum this means F250 2WD with a 360 - can anyone add to that?

Not much difference in the bumps & dents, frame down are pretty much the same.

The 250 should do about anything that you want except pass a gas pump. Should be a darn good truck.

Check the bed mounts underneath especially in the front if it had a large camper. The bed should be cherry because of the camper.

Well I went to look at it, it is a mixture of fibreglass, expanding foam, and rust.

That isn't exactly true on some trucks mine had a camper on it most of its life and my bed floor is almost gone it has huge amounts of rust holes I guess it would also go by were the truck is at most of its life mine was exposed to the winter salt a lot

I learned something today. The reason I said that is because mine had a camper for the first 38 years of its life and when I removed the camper the bed was perfect except for the tool box places in the back corners. I was from southern CA and the camper over hung the sides, front and rear so no water could get in from the top. I now use the truck for hauling mulch and rocks for my wife and kayaks to fish with.
