Depending on the year of your truck, the sensor on the rearend is for ABS only, or drives the speedometer as well as ABS. I have no idea if it drives the tranny as well.
Don't quote me on this, but I thought I read somewhere that the sensor on the trans tail shaft (or transfer case for 4wd trucks) drives the cruise control circuitry.

thanks tecgod13 for ur response. if that is true that the one the speedo cable hooks to is not the speed sensor, then what do you think the chances are that if i change the one in the rear housing my trans will straighten up, or at least make my antilock light go out. and do i need to start a new thread to find out info on my torque converter?

grizz I really don't know much about the auto trans, so don't know if changing the rear sensor will help. It is worth a try though. For the ABS light, it could be a bunch of things, the sensor is one. The ABS unit is on the drivers side frame rail under the cab, I want to say just rear of the engine. That is a pricey part if it needs replacing, and many people feel the RABS on these trucks don't do much. I fixed my light with a piece of electrical tape cut to cover the backside of the dash where the light goes.
