'93 f150 4.9 waterpump failures

four waterpumps have started leaking and have been replaced in about 12 yrs. the last one maybe 2 yrs. old and not 25000 miles. I just replace radiator hoses in Sept. and flushed system and put new antifreeze in at that time. The pumps have been bought from all the major parts stores Napa, Shucks, ford, and a local store. What's happening here why am I losing all these pumps? The seals are going and they start leaking. The last one was a real gusher. I started to look at the Antifreeze compatability story and gave myself a real headache, everyone has their own story and theory. bl2009

Are you talking about the pump to block seals, or the internal pump seals?

yes, Thermostat was replaced 3yrs. ago. I just pick up a new pump made by "GMB" , anyone heard of this manufacturer? I'll install today.Weather here has been pretty cold so, the pump replacement has taken over a week to get done as the rig is setting out in the middle of a parking lot. bjr23

I think that a belt that's too tight has a tendency to mess up bearings, but seeing as you've been thru 4 pumps, this is a possibility for this situation.

Does the belt seem overly tight?
