i'm installing a remote starter in my 89 4X4. got it hooked up and working, but i'm having trouble finding the heater wire so the heater will come on while remote starting.
i've tried testing all the wires in the main harness behind the fuse panel for 12v while in run position, and nothing while in crank position, found 2 or 3 but neither are for the heater.
am i looking in the right place...??
is this kind of testing going to give me accurate results...
The instructions included with the starter should have told you what wires to tap and where they are located, should be at/near the ignition switch. If not go to the manufactures web site and check there.
if i recall i dont think you can tie into that function on that year rig. the heater controls are not electric. you will just need to make sure you have the fan/heater set the day/night prior

You're right....can't control heater setting with the remote. Most remote starters though, you have to hook up to the fan blower motor so the fan will come on when the truck is remote started.
I checked for a grey/yellow wire....couldn't see one, the install papers said it should be black/light green (didn't see that one either).
Can't complain....it was a free unit a buddy gave me....plus i got an interior warmer in the cab anyways (you northern guys will know what I'm talking about <grin>)
thanks for the input anyway.
When I put remote start on my 88 I tied into the acc wire right off the ignition switch on the lower part of the column. Don't quote me on color but I believe it was red with a green strip.
