With this huge swing towards shoot em up run and gun type games like CoD and all the others like it that kids are into, I have been wondering who still plays the simulators? Can be any simulator really, just curious.
The ones that I currently have on hand and installed that I play from time to time is below.
1. IL2 Sturmovik 1946
2. Silent Hunter III (doesnt work on Vista, The anti-pirate software isnt compatible)
3. Silent Hunter IV (wont get Silent Hunter V, its dumbed down to the point of being a arcade shooter not a simulator)
4. 18 Wheels of Steel American Long Haul (I consider it a simulator)
5. 18 Wheels of Steel Extreme Trucker
I also have Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, their website says "America's First choice in post nuclear simulators" but alot of people see it as a role playing game.
Besides that I was doing Silent Hunter IV just now and got some in game screenshots (will be posted further down) and had a pretty good haul of 23,300 tons worth of shipping sunk, would have been more but one of the torpedos ended up being a dud, and then the last one I had didnt do enough damage to a speeding cargoship, so I desided to slug it out with my deck cannon since it was night. Got about ten good hits before the cargo ship got a lucky shot in and got a direct hit on my deck gun. Destroyed the deck gun as well as killed the 5 gunners instantly. But it is a pretty good simulator especially if you get the mod like I have known as "Operation Monsoon" which allows you to play in the atlantic with the german U-boats starting in 1939 as well as being able to play the stock way of 1943 - 45 in the pacific in a U-boat or 1941-45 in the pacific in a fleet-boat.
Current Command - U48, a Type VII-B
And the carnage on a convoy I encountered rounding the north of Ireland on its way to england.
If anyone want to add photos about simulators they enjoy or play alot feel free to. Good way to get others interested in different simulators seeing how something is in game.
i used to play Microsoft Train sim, and had a crapload of downloads for it, most were real-life stuff, but I did have some wacky stuff, like a burro, and a snowman lol.
Thats what I heard. I heard they werent that great and got boring fairly quickly. Only reason I would potentially get that series is just to be able to be captain of the Titanic.

also used to play the 18 Wheels of Steel games
I have been wanting to get a train sim for a while now. I got a plastic model of a big boy train that I want to wait till I have the time to put it together right, but always had an interest for trains as well. The other simulators that I like are the command simulators such as the old Civil War Generals where you could be a commander for the north or south for the whole civil war. Well you just cant find games like that anymore. Its all this point and shoot stuff that is face paced.
Microsoft Train Simulator with a lot of extra routes and rolling stock.
Microsoft Midtown Madness-Chicago Edition. Not a simulator but a great way to take out frustration. The F 350 can take out the police after a few hits!
Anyone found any add on's for the 18 wheels Of Steel sims?
Cant say that I have. Steam doesnt have any add ons listed.
On the other hand I just recently got Red Orchestra ostfront, picked it up for $9 its a shooter but the realistic nature of it has me wanting to call it a simulator. This game has accurate bullet drop as well as correct accuracy. For instance slapping on the bayonet on the M91/30 causes the accuracy to go to crap where without it the accuracy is spot on for the most part. They also got two offical mods for it out which one puts you in North Africa and the other in the western europe theater. All of these are online multiplayer games though but they have bots where youc an pratice or play by yourself. Downside is the bots are pretty stupid. God knows how many times ive been blown up by bots arming demo charges and then holding them or tossing them at their own feet amid a group of friendly soldiers.
I also got Ship Simulator Extremes and its good but not something I would go crazy about playing every day. Thankfully I got it on sale on Steam for $9 so its not all that bad, I already got my moneys worth out of it.
