EOT 232 ECT 191 THINK I KNOW THEM problem

Okay did flush, coolant filter, couple months ago, got scangauge shortly after. I noticed then themo was bad, ect in the 180 range. okay heres the kicker, I did not program eot then. not real good with ele devices. I know iam a *******s. But changed oil sunday, drove it first with seafoam in it first, so it was hot when i droped it, seemed pretty hot, filter also looked darker than normal. So i started thinking need to check eot, so i got numbers, installed them, took it for a drive this morning. I let it heat up in driveway first to 191ect ,eot was 189, so i felt pretty good till i started driving, went about 20 miles, it 232 in first 10, so turned around came home parked it. So looks like i need oil cooler and egr cooler to. One week ago egr cooler hose went south, replaced it,would high temps from oil cooler have helped it go. Truck has 137000 on it, original coolers in it, also when i drained coolant for little hose coolant was clear.Almost 8 years old, guess i got my moneys worth

Definitely sounds like coolers replacement time and if your coolant is 8 years old I can tell you why!!

This thread is yet another perfect testament to how beefy the EGR coolers are on 2003 model year 6.0L engines, over the late 2004 to current model years. I can count on my hands how many 2003 model year EGR coolers I've ever replaced in the years of wrenching on these engines, namely NONE.

That said, the original poster may want to consider replacing the high pressure oil pump cover with the updated part that is machined on the underside of the cover to prevent the discharge tube from rubbing through. The aluminum swash plate style high pressure oil pumps on these engines are also prone to failure at high mileage, which makes it a noteworthy consideration when tackling the oil cooler replacement, since intake manifold removal on 2003 engines tends to be more of a pain with the rear crossover.

If you have to replace the tube as well do you have to pull the trans and rear engine cover to get to it??? Just need a little refresher.

With EOT temps you posted, I would definitely replace the oil cooler along with the screen. Since access to the oil cooler requires removal of the intake and EGR cooler anyways, I would probably test the EGR cooler under pressure to verify that there are no internal leaks, and if it checks out good, simply re-use it.

I'm not referring to the branch tube. I am referring to the discharge that connects to the top of the high pressure oil pump (part number 3C3Z-9T288-AA) where the high pressure oil exits, and then connects to the branch tube at the back of the engine. This setup applies only to the 2003/2004 engines, NOT the 2005 to current engines.

Thanks. I have an 04 engine and I just didn't remember as I don't recall ever having my pump out unless it was 4 years ago and that's too long for an old man--LOL. Just want to be prepared for when the time comes.
