I was surprised to find a price of about $1400 to replace front and rear shocks. I have a 2004 Expedition w/ air suspension. I have 80,000 miles on it. I bought it used w/ 33,000 miles. The last time I was at the dealer they said they were fine - hard to believe (about 75,000 on them at the time.) Any advice/tips? What is your experience w/ how these OEM shocks last? Any aftermarket stuff that fits? I could not find any.
The shocks cost about $250 each to go and buy them yourself. That means they're charging you $100 per shock for installation. I suppose once you figure in taxes and shipping, you can save around $300 if you do the job yourself.
Why use OEM? The aftermarket has hundreds of options for replacement shocks that don't cost $250(each!?!). Here just for a start check this out Shocks and Struts - Suspension Components - Chassis & Suspension - EXPEDITION - FORD - 2006 - SummitRacing.com
There should be a ton of reviews on the internet to help you decide which shocks to buy. If you need help, then list all your trucks details and your intended use here and I'll help you out. I just did this job on my 01 and it only cost me $300 (for top of the line Bilsteins) and about 3 Hours.
This is a job that anybody with a basic tool kit, jack (you can use the stock one-just be careful) and apposing thumbs can do. Find yourself a manual at any parts store. Read it. Then read it again. Dedicate a Saturday and get it done. That night jump on here and tell us all about it.

Replaced shocks on my 2002 expy with Pro Comp shocks. 100k miles.
Man what a difference. Paid 160 bucks on line from 4 wheel parts. Took about 3 hours to install. If i can do it than anyone can.
If you scroll down a ways they do have them listed for the air suspension. There is not, however, a listing for both front and rear, which seems odd to me.

No they don't have a listing for air ride suspensions. All of them say, "Exc. Air Leveling Suspension" except for the last two; those are QuickLIFT 9 position MANUAL adjusting ones.
I replaced my original shocks at 168,000 miles on a 97 Expedition. What was I waiting for? Good question, it rides beautifully now.
I was told Monroe makes the front air shocks that my local Ford Dealer sells. Don't know if that is accurate, but I was hard pressed to find another brand so I bought Monroe 40004 shocks at a local parts place @ $111 each. The rears, of course, weren't air so the choices were many, but I kept it simple with Monroe sensa-trac @ $44 each. You can get a better brand depending on your use and expectations.
