I went with HornBlaster's "Conductor" Kit

Conductor's Special Model 540 Train Horn Kit

+1 on hornblasters, they're loud as hell.

If i had the money i would get a "real" train horn. I like the Nathan Airchime K5LA.

I've got 2 on mine. Just got the 3 trumpet ones from ebay for 50 each free shipping. They are as loud as my dads 300 dollar one.

if you're able to move enough air and have a stable enough base, the real ones win.

My suggestions are a K5LAR24 or a P3R2

real train horn for sure but as started above, they take a ton of air, they cost a ton, big as hell too since most are 5 trumpet flat and it's a huge fine if you get caught with it

If you want something that you won't out grow in a couple of weeks, go with a "real" train horn. A close second would be a set of shockers from Horn Blasters.

Most of the kits on E-bay are plastic and don't hold up for long. Same goes for the compressors.

I have a Leslie RS3L. It's big, as it takes up the whole area that my spare used to occupy. It loves air, as my 12 gallon tank goes from 147# to 80# in less than 10-15 seconds, but that's actually a really long blast. It's loud, from all the testing I've seen the Leslies generally are louder than the Nathans and the toy horns don't even rate mentioning.

I picked mine up on E-bay for $280 to my door and it's in excellent condition. I have another $300 in compressors and tank. Not overly cheap, but I figure if I had bought a "cheap" setup I would have upgraded shortly afterwards. So in the long run, I wasted less $$ and I love it. Plus I have 12 gallons of air and dual compressors so I can inflate tires, etc. all day long.

I got my horns out of an old champion motorhome. I went through 3 compressors before finally buying a Viair. Whatever you do don't skimp on the compressor. The Viair was a great investment. I use it for much more than air horns. The compressor is stout enough to run an impact wrench for a reasonable amount of time.

i got 2 of these DC7500 3/4HP Compressor BARE no circuit 230psi. refurbished for 150 each, a 5 gallon air tank for $20 off a semi and 2 of these TRIPLE TRUMPET TRAIN AIR Horn DEAFENING LOUD Horns WOW - eBay (item 390015355663 end time Nov-27-10 19:01:00 PST)
mounted behind the bumper. one facing each side. thats not the same horn, but close. the ones i got are bigger solenoids and are "152+ d.b. same price as those. i run 3/8 line to them and they work great. the compressors are overkill for a train horn setup, i run air tools and fill flat tires all the time so it works for me. and airing up my tires takes a ton of air.
