ok guys im priming the oil on my 428 and i'm gettiing good oil pressure on my gauge and oil out the top of my passenger side rockers to pushrods but my driver side rockers are getting nothing to the top. they are non adjustable rockers with .90 restrictors in the heads with good oil flow from both sides in the head. Why am I not getting oil to the one side? I'm on my second rocker for testing and still nothing. Also is there a problem with over priming the system too much and washing away assembly lube. Gotta try to get this motor in tonite..
Maybe take that rocker assembly off and crank it and see if oil comes out the top of the head. If it does, maybe you have the wrong bolt in the rocker stand that the oil comes up. If it doesn't, maybe there's a head gasket problem and the oil passage is blocked off.
With those restrictors, it's possinle a piece of trash is plugging it up, so pull the restrictor and crank it to see if oil starts to flow.
Not sure about the lube question. The bearings will be fine as oil is replacing the assembly lube. I would wonder about the cam, but on the other hand, I would imagine the cam lube comes off shortly after it starts anyway.
So the lube is probably the least of your worries and not something you can do much about. Best to focous on why your rockers isn't getting oil for now.
I had good oil flow out both the heads even with the restrictors. I had the right bolts in the proper holes with the one tapered one. What I did was switch the rockers to the opposite sides and determined it was the rocker giving me problems. I then took apart the good rocker to see why it worked and found the bottom smaller holes had a ground flat spot, not sure if it was factory as my bad rocker didn't have it but it seemed to work. I tookaoart the bad rocker and modified the holes with the ground down sections as well.
I put it all back together and the good rocker had oil flowing down top of pushrod as it should and the new modified one didnt but it did have oil seeping out between all the moving parts on shafts just not dripping fro
the top like the other one. Best progress I could get after about 2 1/2- 3 hours of messing around with it!!
