1968 P400 VAN

I HAVE JUST BOUGHT THIS UNIT WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE A FORD 300 I6 ENGINE WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IT HAS NO POWER STEERING WHICH I NEED TO CHANGE FOR POWER STEERING AND RAISE THE CHASSIS A FEW INCHES OFF THE GROUND SINCE ITS LOW COMPARED TO SOME NEWER VANS .

ANYONE WITH ANY IDEAS IS WELCOME OR WHO HAS A FEW PARTS FOR ME TO BUY CAN REACH ME VIA EMAIL : peter.kaks at yahoo . I DO HAVE A FEW PICS OF THE VAN I CAN ATTACH .

THANKS

I see you got the pics loaded in your profile. Good looking find there! I have a '68 P350. My vin plate is gone. Could you tell me where it is on truck? And better yet take a pic( vin obscured) of the id plate? Id apreciate that alot.
This may help with your PS https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/..._2wd_6572.html

I also had a missing VIN number on my 1968 P400 (Grumman body). CHP found the VIN on the frame. Just open the interior engine cover and look at the frame rail on the passenger side of the engine. You might need a brush to scrape the grime that might be covering it, but it should be there.

You might actually have a 240 I6. My 1968 P400 had a 240 in it until it failed. It was replaced with a 300 from a 1987 Ford E-350 which fit perfectly. Now we've found that the original 440k mile transmission is finally toast -- we are trying to see if we can replace that with a C6 automatic so a wider variety of drivers can operate the van (it's a showcase ice cream truck).
