I recently had the "shudder" in my 95 f-150, 5.0, e4od, 4x4 as a bad torque converter. Its been like that for a year or so I don't expect any sympathy. He quoted me a price of around a grand to do a rebuild, so i'm wondering if this is a decent price. Also would i be better advised to try and get a reman or something along those lines?? Any thoughts appreciated.

That sounds like a great deal, i purchased a reman tranny from Napa for my truck and it was $1200.00, and i had to take the tranny out and install the new one.
$850 for an overdrive is probably a good deal. I had a C6 rebuilt by a local shop by me for $650. Included a reman. converter, drain plug for the pan and beefed up the valve body. Theres kind of a funny story to this as well. Right away when I brought the tranny in they ripped it apart and began to hot tank it. They called me up about an hour later and said the case was cracked. The case was cracked inside of the bellhousing by the pump. The good thing was is that they were cool enough to dismantle another tranny I had and use the case from that.
Thanks for the input. I'm wondering why I need a tranny rebuild if its just the converter that is bad??? I also spoke with a dealership and that guy said because it a 95 there are gonna be so many updates to the tranny rebuild that id be better off with a reman tranny...with a total price tag of 2500. I'm gonna get some others to look at it but i got a bad feelin bout this one....thanks again...just double checking my tranny type because the code is "U". This isn't a e40d is it????

Forgot to say this earlier, but welcome to FTE!!! There's a lot of great info on this site. Honestly if i was doing it i would just have both done at the same time. From what i've heard if the TC goes bad it can throw metal shavings into the tranny and cause problems down the road. I'm not positive on that so if anyone can verify that please help myself and Mike out...
