The usual cause for a filter leaking is double gaskets. Make sure the old one comes off when replacing.

I hope to remove the second oil filter that my older brother removed soon to confirm this. Is there an O ring in the 90 degree adapter? Thanks

Leak looks like it coming from higher up than the filter, thats just where its running down to.
Think valve cover gaskets.

if its your valve cover leaking, clean the inside of the motor out. theres a good chance that the oil isnt draining back down to the pan fast enough causing the valve cover gasket to leak. And trash that fram filter. use motorcraft. i have had a few mechanics tell me that they cause problems and i had a 15 psi increase in oil pressure when i stopped using them when i had my ranger.

I helped my bother last night and I tighed both the valve and oil pan bolts.
I only turned them 1/8 to 1/4 a turn to snug them up. Most if not all needed snuging.

Keep ya posted.

My brother says he does not see any leaks BUT he does not drive much, under 5K a year, so he has not gone on a "trip" over 5 miles yet.

Thanks and keep ya posted.

Agree. The leak at the filter is gone but it still smells after it warms up.
