Ok so I have a F250 XL.. It only has 2 speakers. My question is are the wires and connectors there and I just need a speakers or is it more in depth then that?
one of the issues was that the radio that came from the factory in my pickup was a 2 channel radio. It had no provisions for rear speakers. It was an AM/FM/Clock stereo. I had already replaced the head unit with a four channel CD/AM/FM/Clock stereo.
Atleast for a 99, 00 and 01 XL trucks there is no harness pre wired. I have only touched the surface on this, as it appears the dash harness is there and all the wires are in the original radio harness, but I have not figured out where it exactly ends. I emailed ed about this but he was clueless also. He was talking very expensive harnesses and the parts books had many different variations. I would have thought there would have been a kit to add rear speakers. By dissecting an 01 xlt in the yard, the passenger rear speaker is a harness that goes up to the roof, across the back of the cab, becoming part of the harness for the third brake light, then down to the drivers rear speaker, then travels across the floor where it also is the seat belt plug, and up into the dash on the left side.
On an 04 xlt both rear speaker wires travel under the left and right floor sill plates and enter each side of the dash.
The OEM Ford rear speakers could be obtained new in the box with pigtails from the conversion van places in elkhart, indiana for about $10-$15 a pair in oem ford boxes.
