VlietRacer64 (Pete) and I pulled my cab and installed ARP Studs, Black Onyx gaskets and a bunch of other goodies about a month ago and my truck started running like dog poo recently.. After letting it sit for a couple days (we are waiting for the diag tool tool to be delivered) the truck died.. I jumped it and ran some simple tests.. It was running at super low volts (10.4 while running) so I got a new set of batteries and a 200amp alt and installed them both yesterday.
The truck starts quick, and fires right up now however it still runs like garbage.. The engine chuggs at idle and the truck shuttres and shakes mostly between 45-55mph.. there is definitley something wrong. We should have the scan tool so we can complete the diag early this week so I am trying to prepare myself for our findings so I can drop the hammer and order whatever is needed as soon as I know the deal.. I have heard that low volts can damage the FICM so that is one thing that it could possibly be.
If I have an injector / multiple injector failure I was thinking of upgrading to aftermarket injectors.. What can the stock turbo / block handle? If I need to get the FICM retuned (its stock right now) and I have an injector bad I may just upgrade all together.. Can someone give me some good direction?
I also wanted to check into turbo / injector setups.. I dont want to blow it up or anything but POWER is my middle name so if there is somehting I can do while its all apart I would like to do it..
Im not looking to break the bank with this project but I am literally thousands of dollars deep and I need my truck running like a top.. Any guidance is appreciated.
yes, I did read it. Like I said Pete ordered a diag tool and we will be finding out what the problem is early this week. I am trying to get opinions and info on Injectors and / or a Turbo.. Thank you for the link.
Injectors......Full Force Diesel/Ryan Casserly. Turbo--Garrett Powermax will take you to 175 or 190 injectors and about 550+ HP. If you're going FICM and run Eric's tunes then send it to Eric and let him match it with your tunes. All in all it depends on what you do on a daily basis with your truck. If you tow then 155's may be as big as you want to go. You can go crazy fast with 155's with the right tuning.
I tow and I also snowplow.. Im not looking to run 10's but I do want a badass daily driver thats dependable.. What size injector is ideal and what should I expect to spend on injectors and a turbo? Do I need any other supporting mods? The only other thing I have stock is the intercooler...

You can get a million different opinions on this subject. When you go bigger injectors then you'll most likely need something to feed them more fuel. Tex25025 is running 155's and pulling about 500 rwhp. IMHO that's really all you need for towing and plowing AND staying in the dependable mode. You can have a badass daily driver without changing turbo and injectors. It's not going to keep up with your Terminator but it will be dependable. As far as the stock intercooler goes, I'm still on my stock one. Money wise you're looking at $4500-$5000 for turbo and GOOD sticks.
The bottom end is really strong on these engines and has very few problems until you start running some really high RPM's. They also aren't known for a lot of torque, but they can be very fast.
so I can get a good set of 155's, stick with the stock turbo and everything else and be pushing over 500RWHP?
I think thats my goal to be honest. I dont need a race truck... Just something to get it done and be reliable!
Thanks for the help
I don't think that will give you 500 rwhp, but it will give you one hellacious stout truck that's dependable and reliable. You should bet in the 450-475 hp range anyway...with the right tuning.
the diag tool should be here tomorrow or Wednesday so im eager to see exactly whats going on in there and how much work its going to require to fix.. I honestly just want my truck back
