I'm getting close to replacing my front hub assemblies. Wondering if any of the aftermarkets are good options. I'm considering Timken, they seem to be a quality company. I also like the fact they are donating to Operation Enduring Care to help our troops. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Many go the timkin route. I went the cheap ebay route, and now have a year on them. For the price I replaced both sides. Just serviced the needle bearings on them, and after a year no issues, and still going strong.
Timken makes the main bearing in the assembly, not the whole assembly itself. I replaced the drivers side one and that unit was from NAPA. Autozone had the same one at a better price. Ed has them for 323 each plus shipping.
I think you have to contact ed directly as he is restricted not to post prices directly on the forum. However I would certainly recommend him for the following reasons.
If you went to just any ford parts counter for over the counter sales, most would want to charge you list price, where I believe he charges approximately trade price. The sales tax saved is a wash since is about the same as shipping charges. He is also very sharp with the parts books, plus the time saved from travelling to a dealer atleast twice, once to order, and hopefully once to pickup the parts desired. Check out his specials also.
OEM...I just got mine from FORD today. Payed more but I cant wait a week for mine. I checked out NAPA, I got prices of $250 and $400. The $400 is a DANA assembly(same as OEM) the cheaper one uses cheap materials and is a copy cat.
I also went with Ed for the unit bearings on my 7.3L and he also hooked my up with a set of greasable OEM balljoints. I have to many customers call with issues on the after market gypo ones. Only other ones I would use besides OEM would be Dynatrac or Spyntec. Great service and great prices
One main reason I ordered locally instead of going thru Ed was because I had my Hub assembly off thinking it was the servicable needle bearing, but it wasnt.
I tried the cheap route, and after 2 weeks of "no ship" called Ed and had them the next day. Can't say enough about his customer service, his beer selection is a little weak, but he has great service.
