Hey guys my 89 302 EFI bronco stalls after I start it. It doesnt rev up like it is supposed too. I know my carbed 351w has the electric choke. What sensor is dirty or broke. My engine makes a dry start noise when I first start it. Can I fix that?? Also I looked this up on here before. My tranny feels like it is downshifting when I let off the gass. Revs high. OK guys I know these questions are a bit bland. so bear with me. Please dont respond if your gonna be a jerk!! Thanks guys!!!
You can start with a good cleaning of the IAC valve and passage. It is mounted to the driver's side of the throttle body and should be cleaned with throttle body cleaner that is safe fro "sealed" throttle bodies... NEVER USE CARBURETOR CLEANER. Take extra care to keep cleaner away from electrical components and wiring. If this does not help, keep reading.
With your 89, you are going to need to pull codes before you can determine exactly where the problem lies. A Haynes service manual or Ford Fuel Injection will be very helpful with the procedures involved. You can also take the truck to a shop or a local parts chain (AZ, Napa, Advance, etc.) and they will usually pull codes for you for free. If you have some one pull them for you, make sure they tell you the ACTUAL Code number and don't just give you some BS answer like," you need a new O2 sensor" because the codes don't necessarily give you an exact answer like that. I would suggest taking the time to learn how to pull them yourself simply because it will save you time and won't leave you to rely on someone else to do it.
Once you have run a KOEO and KOER test, post the Codes you get. We can give you pretty concise information about how to fix the problem once we know what they are.
