So I have this connection here I can't figure out where it goes. When I short it with a bit of wire, the reverse lights come on. This is what I want, but only when the trans (auto, '79) is in reverse. I'm rehooking lights someone unhooked a long time ago. Anyone know where these leads are supposed to go from here? One is WHT/PNK, the other is BLK/RED. There are no obvious stray wires to hook it back to so I assume they're long gone.
Somebody could've changed things around, but it most definitely is the black/red wire going to the backup lamps. I just take the short out and the lights go out. I was tipped off in this thread, picture halfway down:
Here's the VIN. Doesn't tell me much.. Never seen one like it in the VIN decoders either.
The funny thing is that I messed with the Neutral Safety Switch this morning, hooked it up actually because it had been burned by the exhaust and someone bypassed it. Easy to fix, but what I couldn't figure out is... The white wire going to the Backup Light Switch, which is part of the NSS, is powered. There are two white/pink wires spliced together into a connection inlet. The other side of that goes down to the BLS, but the splice comes over here I think to this little connector. I don't understand... What would make the most sense is that the black/red coming off the NSS go straight to the backup lamps, powered by the white/pink circuit being closed inside the BLS, and powering the lights directly. Instead it comes to this little doohicky confusing the mess out of me.
Multimeter says white/pink at NSS switch is the same as white/pink at the doohicky. Same for black/red. Same wires, on or off. It's like this is crying out to be a bypass or something, the connection is supposed to be made in the tranny switch. The lights would work if it were happening, but it's not... NSS must be busted. Still, what the heck is this connection. It's going to haunt me.
