I ran into some issues today, my brass fitting wont come off my lift pump so rather than playing with it I'm just going to pull it off cut the hard line that goes to the filter and put a new fitting on the lift pump and run a rubber line off the fitting on the new lift pump to where I cut the hard line.
I don't understand the cam lobe thing,
I don't want this to result in me pulling my motor to get a broken arm out my oil pan.
Loosen the bolts that hold your LP in place, then rock the engine over with a flex bar and socket on the crank pulley while wiggling the LP. When it is most loose you are at the low point. That's how I do it anyway.
Oh yeah, if it's not too late, take off your vacuum pump and disconnect the fuel line at the filter housing and pull the LP out the top. Use some penetratiing oil and some patience on the fitting at the LP and it should loosen up. Hose is OK if nothing else will work, but it will eventually be a source of leakage. Also, you can replace the gasket in the fitting at the filter housing.
steps to correctly replacing the fuel pump on the idi.
1.unbolt and remove the lift pump.
2.throw it as far as you can.
3.block off the hole with a bb chevy/small block ford plate, and connect the fuel lines.
4.install electric fuel pump after FSV,wiring it in using a relay/FSS or toggle switch.
5.enjoy the IDI trouble free from air/fuel related problems.
well I went to advance autoparts and picked up some wire, connecters, relay and a mr gasket electric pump, its a diesel pump 4-7psi and 35gph, cost me $60 about $90 for entire swap, took me all day to do it, but I am very happy with and and never have to worry about a arm from a lp swimming in my oil pan along with diesel fuel.
my local stores had no block off plate so I made my own, I took the sawzall and cut the huge diaphragm piece off the lp, then took some small square tubing I had and slipped it in the gap of the lp mounting flange, welded it to the mount and then put some rtv on and bolted it back up. Only cost me the price of a sawzall blade and some mig wire. No way could I wait 3 days for one to ship I'm going to pick up my reg bed tomorrow and srw front hub adapters. Should be interesting trying to mount the bed to this frame
your swapping to SRW for good or just for plow season?
hey, don't forget to remove that tiny fuel filter on that pump.that little bugger wouldn't take long to plug up and burn up the pump.
