I have a 1955 f-100 and I would like to use the Toyota Power steering conversion.
Problem is I have the original 223 straight Six so I have power steering pump bracket problems. I have converted to 12 volts so I have a alternator which hangs on the driver side of the engine leaving very little room for the pump.
Where and how do I hang the pump?
Next problem is I have the original 3 speed trans. with the column shift (3 on the tree) which I want to retain. Is there enough room to install the Toyota steering box and attach to the stock steering column and retain the stock 3 speed linkage?
Has anyone done this conversion on a six cylinder, column shift truck?
Wow this seemed to slip down the list a little too quick. There are lots of threads about Toyota boxes but you can't use the search here until youget 25 posts. I'd try the google search - maybe you can get into some of them that way.
In th emean time, I'll bump thins back up for you so folks will get another look at it!
I expect you'll need to fab a custom bracket for the steering pump. I don't know if there is a 2 sheave (belt groove) crankshaft pulley for the 6, if so or if one could be adapted that would make it easier to figure out the pump drive. AFA the columnhow much room is there between the bottom of the linkage and the stock steering box? If it is > 1" you can probably use the stock column and linkage. Today most either use an auto tranny or a later model floor shifted manual tranny rather than that non syncro rock crusher. In any case you will lose the function of the center of the wheel horn button unless you use one of the $$$ kits Mid Fifty sells.

I am waiting delivery on a setup from a 63 galaxie 223 that I am hoping will work for my toyota conversion on my engine. I will post more as I get to it. Look at that thread for pics and other great ideas.
