spark knock?

I need to pick all of your brains. I have 78 460 block, d3ve heads, speed pro hyperutectic pistons(part# sl h582cp30) and lunati voodoo 6061 cam. Ok here is the problem, i can not seem to get the timing set so it it wont spark knock. If somebody can please give me some ideas to try it would be appreciated.

I had this problem when I rejuvenated my engine back in '08.
Found I was getting a total of 56* advance.
Had to purchase a Crane Cams 99601-1 adjustable vacuum advance and recurve my distributor.

They are out of business, but I find it on Amazon. (the picture is wrong but the P/N is right)
Amazon.com: Crane 99601-1 Adjustable Vacuum Advance Kit: Automotive

Be sure to ask the seller if it is INDEED the one for a Ford DSII dizzzy.

thank you I will give that a try. it got a little bit better hold the gears longer with an octane booster, but 93 octane gas is expensive enough. Appreciate the input.

Under what conditions does it knock ? Have you had a timing light on it ? If you are using the Ford dizzy, what slot is the mechanical advance in ?

Another thing to think of, is the EGR hooked up???
What carb are you using?

There is also a distributor recurving tutorial here: Duraspark_distributor_recurve_instructions_index
