Fan Removal 04 Excursion HELP!!
#17
I'm back. Borrowed a Snap On PH 3050 air hammer, hooked it to the Lisle tool and still no go. I've got 100 psi air coming out of the tank and no turn. Is there any other way, short of removing the bottom pulley and then taking off the front cover? If I use the heat wrench then I ruin the fan clutch? There's another $300+ I don't need to spend. Oh well, No rest for the wicked or the weary! Still open to suggestions..
I need someone to wave a magic wand and make it all better. Ha. Ha.

Update
Well it has only been 11 or 12 days but I did it. The fan assembly is off, as is the waterpump. I have one advantage techs don't, TIME. If this was a flat rate job I would have lost my butt. Thanks everyone.
After I could not get the fan nut loose last week I just quit working on it and finished and or started some other unrelated projects. Occasionally I would stop by and beat on it or try to turn it or air hammer it. It would not move and I would walk away. Today just before lunch it broke loose. I had a 1.25" square solid steel bar borrowed from the farm tractor and a 3 lb. mini-sledge. Once it moved it was just a matter of turning it with the fan wrench. Lots of turns.
The impellar looks to be made of a hard plastic and the new one is an alloy or monkey metal as my dad use to call it. The old one doesn't appear worn or loose. I guess it is a seal on the inside. I think the water was flowing out of the hole beside the little freeze plug.
A couple of questions. Imagine that!! The new pump came with a new oring. Should I use any gasket sealer or form a gasket type material? Also I have read multiple post in multiple forums about leaving the motor side shroud off when I put it back together. Thoughts or opinions? It sure is a PITA to remove. Thanks again for reading and the moral support.

do not use any other type of sealer with an o-ring. o-rings seal fine. using a sealer with an o-ring causes leaks.
leaving the stator (fan shroud inner part) imo is a bad idea. if for no other reason if the belt breaks that thig does a great job at containing it and limiting the amount of damage a belt can do.
