Well it has begun. started on it tonight. I got the D50 TTB ready to come out, just gotta cut the u bolts and it should drop out. ill post some pics tomorrow sometime. so far so good.
Subscribing... Gonna do this swap over the next few days!
I just stripped a donor 350 down to frame, axles and engine. Pulling the eninge today and cutting out the axles.
i wish i could have found a whole truck to do this swap with, but all i could come up with was the axles. i am missing that little bracket on the drivers side pig where the u bolts bolt up to. i gave up on trying to find it so its time to get creative. anyway so far its goin pretty good, everything came apart real nice. only had to use the torch 4 times..lol
once per each side of the U-bolts lol.
looking,it appears like its pretty much as easy as swapping the rear end,as it would be to d50 to d60.
dunno though, never done it.could be more to it than it appears for all i know.
well ill let yall know whan its done, so far its goin pretty easy. the break calipers switched right over. didnt get much done today. Apparently they expect me to come in to work...dont they know i got important stuff goin on.
by the looks of what D60's sell for,it appears its cheaper to just skip the f250's and just buy the f350 trucks if you want the D60 front end.
im seeing higher prices for the fronts, than im seeing price differences between f250/f350.what the heck lol.
you know how many ball joints and U-joints i can go through for that $.
my truck would rust out before i could replace enough front end parts.it would only cost $,and never save it lol.
less this D50 is as bad as you guys claim.
i think most of you looking for the D60's isn't so much because of plowing/working the front end,but to be able to lift for large tires,if im understanding correctly?
anyone plowing with their D50,and having trouble holding the front end together?
im hoping most of you guys are into lifts/large tires/off roading?
Personally, i'm looking for the lifting aspect to the D60 and also strength. I would also like to be able to say "yeah thats a Dana 60 in my F-250". I also think they are just a better axle no matter what you're doing with it.
