Motorcraft 5W-40 Full Synthetic

Motorcraft 5W-40 Full Synthetic
Noticed a few posts looking for OEM Synthetic Oil information. This 5W-40 is currently released within the Ford parts system. For those that like changing your own oil, it appears that the 55 gallon drum is available and might be a way to save a few bucks. Incidently, back in the day racing sleds (snowmobiles), I used to purchase "Golden Spectro" 2 stroke synthetic by the drum. That stuff was expensive by the pint/quart.

Item Number MSRP Core Price Price
XO5W405QSD $44.02 $0.00 $41.09
OIL - ENGINE
That is the price for a 5 quart jug. This price price far eclipses that of any other 5w40 synthetic diesel oil that I have ever seen. It works out to about $32.87 per gallon. I am paying $26-$28 per gallon for Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme.
Item Number MSRP Core Price Price
XO5W40DSD $1,818.11 $0.00 $1,696.91
OIL - ENGINE
This price is for a 55 gal drum. This works out to $30.85 per gallon or a 6% cost savings for buying in bulk.
I would have to see more detailed info on this oil before I would consider paying the extra cost. Hopefully somebody can provide us with some oil analysis reports using this oil on a 6.7 in the near future.
Thanks for the info Paul. I have wondered for a while what the price tag was on the Motorcraft 5w40 but didn't have a part number and was too lazy to actually call my parts guy!
On edit:
I did find a full product data sheet on it. The TBN appears to be lower than Amsoil that has been in a 7.3 for 7,500 miles.

And did I read that right or it doesn't even say CJ-4? Edit: Nevermind, it does say CJ-4.
Go to Wallyworld and spend around $20/gal for Mobil-1 or Rotella T6 if you want synthetic and you can get it in nice convenient 1 gal containers. Fak the 55 gal drum for the love of dog.
That being said, I couldn't find non-synthetic 10W-30 CJ-4 anywhere and that's what I want to put in for first change @ 5000 mile. Non-synthetic. So I broke down and got Motorcraft from the dealer @ 3.80/qt which is is 14.40/gal. Compare that to Rotella T5 synth blend for 11.50/gal at Wallyworld.
In summary, Motorcraft stuff from the dealer is a great big rip off.
Ok then. Rant over
