Parking issues / Flirting with disaster

Coming from a shortbed F150 to my new longbed F350 I new I'd have some issues with parking, especially since I live in So. Cal where all the parking spaces seem to be sized for Toyta Prius. What I didn't expect is that I'd have problems in my own driveway. In my neighborhood some folks got tickets for vehicles blocking or sticking out onto the sidewalk. I'm sure someone complained since one of the neighbors in particular liked to have his truck completely blocking the sidewalk (usually just takes one jerk to mess things up for the rest of us).

Just thought I'd share at how I have to park everyday to not get cited (and not get keyed by some angry pedestrian).

Front end sticks out a couple inches, notice how no one else has vehicles sticking out.

Read end backed up as close as possible to the garage door...

and as close as possible to the side edge of the garage so wifey still has room to get in/out

Wow, that's a pretty tight fit. I guess getting cited depends if you're working with human beings or not. If someone has a problem with you hanging over the sidewalk 3 inches after you've already done everything in your power to minimize that, you're dealing with pretty unreasonable people. It's hard to reason with unreasonable people.

Looks like the only thing left to do is remove the rear bumper.

Parking

Reminds me of when I was looking for my first house. The first thing the realtor and I would do is measure the garage - if it wasn't 22 feet minimum, I didn't look any further. I have a '97 F150 XLT with a supercab and 8 foot bed, and that wasn't my longest vehicle. One of my Cadillacs was actually longer.

I certainly feel your pain! I started a thread about vehicle height and width once my eagled eyed wife pointed out that the brochure measurements were made without options (i.e. roof lights) and without a measurement for the truck with the power mirrors folded against the truck.

My truck has been on order a couple of weeks and I have been going from dealer to dealer locating and measuring trucks with my exact configuration (CC, SB, 20" wheels, snow plow package and roof lights). And I am finding variability!! Enough that it fits one day and not the next.

This may seem like A LOT of work, but you could pad in your exising garage opening a few inches. It would require remounting and rehanging the door. I agree with the people who say, why would a couple of inches matter, but I have lived in communities like yours and turf wars seem to be a way of life.

Ditto! And maybe somewhere other than the People's Republik of Kali.

I went with a shortbed F350 SC because I figured the longbed with the SC and especially with the CC in any metro area would be a pain. After two shortbeds instead of a longbed, I've "almost" gotten used to having less room in the back.

Joe, who has to work in Kali sometimes, and tries to get in and out as fast as possible.

I'm really not worried about get cited when I park that close. Most cops are human too and can easily see that I've taken the effort to be out of the way. It's a screwball neighbor that likes to complain about every little thing, every neighborhood has one.

No dents (yet) and hope to keep it that way. I had to get the longbed for the gooseneck trailer, otherwise it would be no problem.

As for Cali, I like to say that when I retire, I'm leaving California... and moving back to the United States.

That would be enough to make me move out in the country. Oh wait, I did.

How about a flap in your garage door that pushes in with your rear bumper? Or late one night, re-pour the side walk six inches closer to the road? No one would ever notice.
