Any one replace their....

Any on have to replace their power steering pump. I can move the pulley shaft in and out about a half an inch and it's starting to make a ticking noise. Has anyone had this problem and how expensive is it? I 'm guessing this may be contributing to my belt squeal. Thanks guys I look forward to your responses.

This is another great write-up by camodown. How to replace your power steering pump. Post #20 is where he reposted the missing pics.

With that kind of in and out movement it sounds like you found the culprit to your previous problems. If money's tight, local parts house but you know you can't put a price on OEM. PartsGuyEd would be able to assist yaa, good luck.

Ok guys you are probably getting tired of me talking about this ridiculous belt issue I'm having but I broke down and bought the oem belt from ford $80 bucks ouch! But guess the squealing has ceased . Thank you jeasus. That was driving me crazy. It turns out the oem belt seems to be a little thicker and it has alot more tension than the nappa belt. I made a mark on the tensioner with the nappa belt and the oem belt and there was quite a big difference and with my original belt the tensioner was bottomed out and without a load on the engine the belt was a gatorback and it was causing the tensioner to tap on itself. Correction on the slack in my powersteering pump it only moves about a 1/4 in. In and out no slack up and down. Question about the tensioner there are some marks on it is that to tell you if the belt is too loose. If your not sure what I'm talking about I'll try and post a pic if I can figure it out on my phone.

I agree the about the napa "house" belts, I have never had good luck with them. I have heard good things about the Gatorbacks from other members but I have never used one on this truck. I bit the bullet and went with OEM also, heck the original one went 80k and looked good but I replaced it anyway just cause.

I'm a happy Gatorback belt owner. Yes, they seem to be fine so far. It's been a year on my truck (approx 7000 miles).

It is pretty normal to have a little in and out play in the pump. You just don't want any side to side play...
