I have a 2010 Ford f-150 FX4 Super Crew, with 1,700 miles.
The truck has been great except for one thing that drives me nuts. I'm wondering if its normal or not.
When I just start the truck after it has been sitting like all night and I leave the house I have alot of 25 and 30 mile an hour zones. Anyways if I hold the speed at 25 to 30 mph range the truck constantly keeps shifting from 1,2,1,2,1,2 and it just drives you nuts. Now if I get on the highway and drive faster speeds for like 8 to 10 miles or so then get back to 25 to 30 mile an hour zones it doesn't shift like it does cold. Basically it seems like when the tranny temp gets up to temp it drives fine.
Basically is this shifting normal or should I have it looked at.
Remember the first gear in these trucks is really low. So if you are just at that shift point from 1st to 2nd, it is going to hunt. Might try just shifting into 2nd, or try the tow/haul mode to see if it is better. Like said before, you should already be in 2nd at that speed, so you may have to get it checked.
Yea I just did this at lunch for you. My truck is right around 4th gear at those speeds on a cold trans. Something is definitely off. Granted my trans was warming up this whole time, but I tried tow/haul mode afterwards, and it still made it to 3rd gear. I'd take it in. Maybe yours has an old PCM flash?
