C6 problem

C6 problem
Got a shift problem, C6/390, without the engine running you can move the shifter thru all the gears with no trouble, but when you have the engine running it can be shifted from park all the way down to low, but when going back up it stops in 2nd gear and will not go any futher unless you turn the engine off. I know its not in the linkage, ANY clues to the problem? Thanks
