stuck in 4th gesr

stuck in 4th gesr
I just bought 82 f150 4x4 300 6cyl 4 apeed with granny gear.
The guy i bought it from just put in a new clutch set.
He took the top off the trans. to put oil in and when he put it back on it is stuck in 4th gear.
you can start the truck and let out on the clutch and it is in gear no matter where you put the shifter.
with out the truck running it will go in all gears but 4th.
would you think he didn't get the shift forks in the right place when he installed the top?

is this a t-18? sounds like he put the top on with the tranny not in neutral, or the top wasnt in neutral
just pull the top, make sure the top is in neautral and put the tranny in neutral....this should take care of it
