First can a 302 fit in a 96 Ranger? If so is there a kit or parts to buy? I have a 302 that i rebuilt but never found anything worth placeing it in. I now have a 96 3.0 that has lasted for 230,000 and wants to retire. So has anyone put a 302 in there Ranger, I be greatful for any info.

Yep been done a lot of times with all kinds of different componations. It's usually the wiring that is the hard part if you are not electrically inclined (me).

You might also check out the "Franken Ranger", at Harwood Performace, they have a manual & other info, kits, ect, on how to do it & that is one neat job, on a sleeper, tire smoking Ranger!!!! HPE 1997 Ford Ranger Splash V-8
I had almost forgotten about Matt. His truck ended up about three blocks from where I worked but was sadly really beaten down by then. His manual is based around the '93' wiring which seems to be pretty common. Most would also reccomend getting one of the Ford wiring manuals for the donor and one for your truck. Usually can pick them up on E-Bay for $7-10 each.

I think that we are in the same boat. I have a 302that i got out of a Mark VII,haven't put it in yet,but I will have to change the mounts, and bellhouseing to make it fit on my 96! and a few other minor things. anyway,Have fun and Good Luck!
Wiring is a pain on later EFI Rangers, but the mechanical work of the swap is no worse than it is in early non EFI Rangers.
Actually, with the '98-2000' Rangers, wiring is a snap. The Explorers and Rangers share the same 104 pin connections at the CPU and makes the wiring so easy. If doing a 4x4 swap (torson suspension), even the motor mounts work.
