harm in removing vacuum lines?

I know there are people out there that get tired of finding and fixing vacuum leaks and just get rid of them. Well I'm one of them and I only started working on an 86 f250 today. I was planing on gutting the 300 miles of vacuum line to make life easier. Is this the wrong thing to do? I don't have emissions in my area so I'm not worried about that. I've search the forum and found a lot of you are trying to put back the vacuum lines where they came from to make everything work. Is this really a bad idea?

If everything is working and the thing runs well, I wouldn't suggest removing stuff just to
"make life easier" because there's a good chance your engine will retaliate against you.

IOW yes, it can be a bad idea.

I feel the same way. If everything works why change it. I did some mods on my 86 F250 years ago that if I was to face it now I would of done things different. But it is done & too late to go back.
As far as hurting the engine I doubt it. But if your not experienced on what & how it all works then you may end up with a poor performing truck.

the truck is not running good, I found one big vacuum leak and I think there are others. this is the reason for wanting to remove all the vacuum lines, instead of replacing them because they are not in good shape. I would like to have everything work the way it was intended but that looks like a lot of work just to have a plow truck. I will try to find and fix what I can before making this decision.

Myself, I gutted the system for the same reasons you want to. PO had removed "some" of the smog system, and there were capped vacuum lines, broken vacuum tees, etc.

So I just tore it all out, and hooked it back up as if it was a older vehicle. vac lines to brake booster, HVAC controls, Transmissio, cruise control, and one for the vacuum advance.

Couldn't be simpler, runs great, nothing else to go wrong..

If you really want to do it, I recommend doing a Duraspark-II conversion, and getting rid of the computer controlled system.

If you are going to stay computer controlled, its a bad move IMO, and the engine will run poorly because the computer will go into limp home mode.

A bunch of new rubber hose is cheap. If it's still stock and not messed with, leave it.

well so far there is a broken backpressure valve on the drivers side exhaust manifold. it was rusted apart and always shut. I'm not replacing that so I just plugged the vacuum line. there's no way I am going to replace it all. I like the clean look of the engine with not a lot of vacuum lines. I'm also not sure as of yet if the rest of the system is working or even hooked up. .there is an electric module that is on the side of the carb that should press on the throttle leaver but it doesn't even line up with anything on the throttle leaver. so I'm still wondering what was done right on this truck before I picked it up.
