I have been knocking out my to do list on my truck. One of them is to run a line to the vacuum. I decided to check to make sure it works before splicing a line for it. I ran a hose to the wiper motor and turned it on. All I hear is the sucking noise; no wiper movement at all. I have never been in a car with a vacuum motor, so I'm not sure if the sucking is supposed to be there. I do not think it is coming from the line itself. It took a lot of work to get the hose onto the port. But I do not know exactly where the noise is coming from. Can someone help me trouble shoot my problem?
....or make me feel stupid by telling me a simple mistake I am making on it!
i know that when i was trying to rehab mine, i googled vacuum wiper motor, etc. and found some good instructions on rehabbing them. if the seal inside is leather, it might just need soaking (wd 40?? don't rem for sure) if it's rubber i guess it's a lost cause? got mine to work weakly but wouldn't push two wipers, so went electric. others with more knowledge should be along shortly.
This may sound stupid, but did you hook up the vacuum line to the correct port? There is an exhaust tube that looks just like the fitting the vacuum line is supposed to go on.
Merc, not a stupid question at all. I originally just hooked it up to the only one I could see. Later I went back and looked in more detail to see the other. Neither side being hooked up will move the wiper.
I plan to convert over to electric, I just wanted to wait a while before doing so. I've spent a lot trying to get it running this year. I was hoping that a few feet of vacuum hose and a couple fittings would fix my problem. I guess I'll be buying a new kit sooner than planned.
