I am going to be ordering a 2011 Superduty soon. I know it comes with some sort of factory installed "alarm". I am just curious what it does and how it works? I have always had alarms on my trucks but the last one I had installed turned out to be a nightmare so I don't want to deal with it again if I don't have to.....
The way I understand it works is basically if a locked door is opened somehow other than using the key or the keyless entry, the horn will start sounding...is this true? If so, is there any sort of starter kill (I realize the truck isn't supposed to start without the correct key, but just wondering).
Just the way you described. If you even unlock the door with the key and get in, you must start the vehicle quickly or the alarms will go off. That covers the break-ins and forced entry. This is more alarm than I've ever had before.
I had the dealer install a better alam that works with it. It adds a glass break sensor, a sensor that detects if the truck is being moved, and a kill switch.
I noticed on a 2010 Lariat I have driven the alarm countdown would begin simply from opening the hood if the key isn't in the ignition.
My truck doesn't do this and I do have that hood sensor on the left.
Does the '11 Lariat do this?
I would love to be able to add a hidden kill switch. Have always done that on past Ford's, but this new one has so many high tech features, I wouldn't know where to begin without creating a problem. Any idea's?
I thought I read somewhere that the key has a chip in it so it won't start unless the key is near the ignition. In otherwards.. smart key and truck can't be stolen. No key ignition kill is activated.
The remote start, key is not near, but the truck can't be activated unless key is IN ignition.
I went to my dealer today and tried to get the alarm added onto my 2011 f-350 lariat with remote start. They told me that it would not work with the remote start. They said I had to get the alarm with the remote start and take the original remote start out. I can't believe with all the technology in these trucks that they can't make this work.
it's not a matter of "can" make it work. They just "don't". And for good reason. They have two systems designed, and 99% of people interested in either factory system will order the system they want with the truck. There isn't a big enough market interested in purchasing a truck with remote-start and adding a factory alarm later... so they just leave the R&D for piecemeal systems to the aftermarket.
