The biggest bang without turning wrenches is a tune. Various different tuners, I had a tune on my 08 F150 5.4 tuned with SCT X3, custom tunes from Justin at VMP. I went with the 91-93 octane performance tune and made a huge difference from factory, took care of the hesitation from idle to acceleration. Also had a CAI, AFE2 with the dry element which gave it a nice growl at WOT. I took those off the truck when I traded it in for an F250.
The current OBDII vehicles use programmers/tuners.
Worth the money depends entirely on your perspective (what you want and how much you want it).
I'd suggest you contact one (or preferably more) of the tuners below. At least read, read, read the vast amount of information available on their websites and in the Computer Chips & Tuners forum.
CAI- you wont notice the power, you will notice the noise
Tuners- best bang for your buck, i have a EDGE love it. wish i got the gryphon.
Supercharger- most power you will ever get out of your truck, i want a pro-charger, dont have to change out the intake. real easy.
Depends. You gotta pay to play. And if you're like most of us on here you want to feel and hear what you paid for, right? So yes, the extra WOTs throughout the week that put a smile on your face take some toll on the engine internals and the transmission. But, if you do the regular maintenance and don't over do it (like gunning it ever time you come to a stop sign) your truck and the additional mods should give you years of trouble free operation.
