2002 Explorer keyless entry pad on door not working
Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I am active on other Mustang sites but never this one. It seems informative and helpful so I thought I would join and run a question by you.
My entry pad on the outside of the drivers door stopped working on my 02 Explorer. Not only does it not open the doors but they dont light up when pushed. I looked in the owners manuel for a fuse related to this but did not see one. Does anyone know the location of or which fuse this number pad is controled by?
On my 97 the number buttons simply ground the voltage from the remote 'anti-theft personality module/Rap" The ground wire for this is solid brown.
The lighting gets voltage from the RAP module and has a seperate ground wire which is solid black.
The only thing thats fused is the RAP module.
As they say a picture is worth a thousand words so see if your friendly neighborhood Ford dealer parts dept will print out the wiring diagram for the 2002 "remote control alarm & lock system."
87XLT, thanks for the quick response. Of course I go out to the truck right after this post and the pad works. Sounds like a short, bad connection or wire somewhere. I noticed yesterday that when the pad was not working, the front passenger door lock would not unlock by any means than physically unlocking it. Now that the outside pad is working, the same door lock works with the remote and the number pad. Bad , loose connection somewhere huh?
Yeah, since the keypad does'nt light up & the buttons dont work it sounds like a flaky connection on the ground side of the circuit.
Most likely problem is a broken ground wire where it flexs everytime you open the door
Wish I had a way to look at the 02 wiring diagrams.
If you can get hold of the 02 FACTORY wiring diagrams they would be a major help in fixing this. Most wiring diagrams are not worth the paper they are printed on.
I have a 1998 ford explorer and I have researching my keypad that exhibited similar symptoms. the 7/8 and 9/0 keys would lock but the factory code would not work. I tried the tip above and looked for a broken wire in the hinge bellows. I found a broken wire that I bypassed and the keypad now works completely.
