Hello, I got my first oil change at 5,000 miles and decided to let the computer tell me when to get the next one.
9400 miles later the "Oil change recommended" message came on.
600 miles after that the "Oil change required" message came on.
So, I went 10,000 miles on the oil. The engine never "made oil" and all looked good.
I am at 15,400 on my odo, just had an oil change yesterday and also had the fuel filters changed.
My mileage numbers are obviously rounded, just wanted to give you all an idea of what the computer does.
I also purchased the coolant test kit from Ford. My dealer also threw on 2 new Michelin's because of the chunks coming out. They had to cheat a little on the warranty but they are great about things like that, no worries.
So, not only do I save $$ by gaining 2-4 MPG over my last truck, I also save $$ by having half the oil changes. I save around $300/month on fuel, $100/every 6 weeks for oil changes.
Great follow-up. Nice to know the oil didn't grow. And oil analysis of fuel content percentage would be nice to know. Two things: are you going to sample the oil and send in for analysis? and what type of driving? Since driving style determines the oil dilution, are you a highway driver or a grocery-getter?

How much did they charge to replace the Fuel Filters?
The computer must calculate the OCI based on miles and engine hours. If you run all highway miles, it would extend the OCI, all city it would shorten it. I still wouldn't go over 5k though.
I agree with you 100% on a 6.0, but this motor operates a little differently. You don't have a HEUI system constantly shearing the oil at 3000-4000 psi and you are not introducing as much contaminated EGR gas into the cylinders.
I believe it was PBuckne that told us their original intent for this motor was as much as 15,000 mile OCI, but they felt that the general public would never buy that. As I recall he stated that 10,000 miles was not problem at all. I would recommend good oil analysis to get an idea of what is really happening to the oil at extended intervals. Everybody's driving habits are different and every style affects the service life of the oil differently.
I don't plan on getting an oil analysis, I'm not that worried about it. The only reason I would get it done is just to provide info for FTE, which may happen one day, who knows.
I am a highway driver. I average just over 900 miles/week. Anywhere from 3000 to 6000 miles each month. I always have a trailer attached, mostly insignificant in weight (under 10K, I reach 13K now and then but only a few times/year) and my trailers are 2 16 footers and 1 18 footer that is 2 feet taller than standard. Wind resistance on the interstates is the main drag.
I don't know how much they charged for the fuel filters. My receipt is still being worked on because they had to work in the 2 new tires. It's legit, I made the warranty claim on the tires when I just had 7,000 miles on the truck but I did not make it into the dealer until the other day when I had over 15K on the odo so the service dept. needed to work on the receipt and they will mail it to me.
I paid $245 for oil change, fuel filters and the coolant pH test kit, and 6 bottles of Motorcraft Cetane booster. The itemized receipt may have some misc. charges for the tire change, we'll see.
Since I run so many highway miles I don't really have a problem with long OIC.
I'm glad you guys are interested in this info, wasn't sure if anybody would care about it.

Reason: pricing stuff
Yes, it was pbruckne who said they were considering 15000 miles. IIRC he also said except for the most severe duty cycle they could have went with 15000 miles and that was very close to a passing grade. I am running 7500 intervals now.
Using Amsoil in my 07 Cummins 5.9, I changed about every 8-10K. The oil always looked great. With the technology in this new 6.7, I can't imagine any problems with the interval schedule.
