New to Site: MyTruck: 77 F250 Highboy

Hello

I recently purchased a 1977 F250 Highboy. Love the truck. Hope the forum can help me out with any truck related things. Was hoping to post a pic but cant figure out how to post one.

Truck has: 400ci, 4x4, auto, 4 inch factory lift, 33's, two-tone white/black paint job, pretty much all original everything.

Need to take care of an exhaust leak, oil leak, and some rust, especially around the fenders and door corners, and one spot in cab ceiling. besides that its a pretty solid truck.

Too many posts to go, so I'm gonna start browsing and see what threads are useful for the issues I have.

Woody

Hey, welcome aboard jowood, lots of good info here, and if you can't find what you need in a search, just post a question, and someone will help you out in short order. Truck sounds interesting, when you can post some pictures, we love to see your truck and please tell us how long you had it, the back story on it, your plans for it etc, etc,.....

I posted a photo, hope it comes up. I only bought this truck about a month ago, the lady who got rid of it had too many trucks and it had to go. Odometer says 84000, and just based on its condition, Im assuming it hasnt flipped. Truck is in PA now, but will go to New Mexico next summer.

First, I want to fix exhaust leak. This might mean replacing the exhaust, but not sure. Then see whats up with the oil leak. I dont mind a little rust, so will deal with that later. its bad around the fenders, and i might have to replace them, unless there is another solution. and a bit of rust on cab ceiling near front windshield is something ill have to deal with too.

Interior is nice, original vinyl. carpet needs to go and will rhino line floors, as well as bed. then put some 35's or 36's on black steel wheels. eventually paint a white/red combo.

400 engine runs strong, 4 low a bit stubborn to get in, but no biggie.

I'll gladly take any suggestions/recommendations as this is my first pick up, old one at that. Thanks

Nice looking truck and welcome to FTE. My 76 Highboy is sometimes difficult to shift into 4 low as well. Im assuming the linkage needs lubricated but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

I imagine there aren't too many highboys with race track trim out there. I think maybe they would have only been available for half a year?

Yeah I love they paint scheme. This is one of the main reasons I bought the truck, it wasnt the deciding factor, but the paint is very cool.

I read somewhere else that the "true Highboys" ran up to '77.5 in which midway thru the year Ford changed the 3/4 ton line and went to the "Lowboy". VIN numbers determine whether a '77 is that or the '77.5 year.

Is that right? Im not sure. Im still figuring out these trucks. I'd have to go and check my VIN #, but maybe this has something to do with the paint scheme also. Then again, this does not explain the non two-tone Highboys. Either way, nice colors and trim

Highboys were made through 77.5 and I'm fairly certain the race track trim was 77-79. So the only overlap where you could get both a highboy and race track trim would be 1977 through 1977.5. Half of a year only.
