When replacing the original exhaust on my 83 F150 302 I went with a Walker "Hemi Turbo " muffler with 3" SISO. It exited through a 2.75 " stainless industrial pipe on the Pass side just before the rear tire. It sounded great and really opened up the upper end over 2500 Rpm over the old stock system. I couldn't believe how heavy the old system was.
Youtube has tons of exhaust sound videos for your listening pleasure!

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT do like above and run dual 3" from the manifolds back. You will not have enough back pressure and you will loose what littke bottom end the 302 has.
Unless you are building an all out drag engine dual 3" on a small block is no good
I didnt say anything about running 3" true duals... I said in my first post to run a single 3" piping if thats what your referring to? I personally decided to run true duals with no cat. and mufflers for sound and desided to run 2 1/2" because if i start modding the motor i dont have to replace the exhaust if i dont want and i have the 351 not 302. The cheapest opition for him would be to just replace the cat. with a highflow and run no muffler. From my personal expierence i first ran my exhaust with the stock Y pipe into the I pipe into duals with just the stock cat. on and it wasnt to much louder then stock.
I agree about the single 3 inch. Thats what I have on mine. I have a SIDO Magnaflow muffler and think it sounds perfect. Its mellow and deep. Dynomax makes good stuff too. I have their Ultraflo mufflers on my Mustang. The kit you looking at probably has a Superturbo muffler. Those are good too. Don't flollow the trendy Blowmaster junk.

Yes. I read your post wrong. I am sorry. but even 2 1/2 half duals is too much on a 302
I'm looking for something economical, without being complete crap.
thanks!
And therein lies the rub. When it comes to exhaust you get what you pay for... on my 5.8 Bronco I ran headers with true duals and turbo mufflers with 2.5 pipe out the back. Nice sound, not too loud but with pulling the cats, you have to have an inside connection at most exhaust shops to get them to do it. On my 90 5.0 Bronco I ran a 1 into to split off the cat, 2.5 pipe with duals out the back. Different sound than the 5.8 true dual, but still not offensive. The 5.8 had the pipes turn out in back of the tires, the 5.0 dumped straight out the back under the bumper. On the 5.0 the pipe followed under the frame rail, to clear the oversize bronco tank. This setup on a F series would allow clearance for a stock size spare. On my 460 F250, I went with headers, and mandrel bent sections from Summit Racing with Flowmaster mufflers, dump in front of the rear axle. Louder than the bronc's and obnoxious if you stomp on it (flowmasters definately have their own sound!!)
Keep in mind that with the True Duals, you will have to either route the drivers side pipe to the left or under the Tcase to clear it.

Reason: clarification on pipe routing
