I need to get a new flex plate for my engine rebuild (351W with E4OD). I found some that said they would fit my truck but they didn't have the same tooth count and I am not sure what stock is.
But each one of those is a different diameter. I haven't taken out the old engine from the truck yet, I bought a block and am building that one up so I haven't been able to look at the flexplate that is on there now.
Anyone have a suggestion about what I can do here?
Thanks, that helps. I am not just building a stock engine, I am going to build it up a bit (450 HP or so). So would it make a difference to find a stock replacement or is it really worth it to get a performance flexplate?
Also, I saw two styles of flexplates: one labeled as "internal engine balance" or "external engine balance". Do you know what this is referring to?
Your motor would be an external balanced. An external balanced has the wieghts on the flex plate and the harmonic balancer. The internal balanced will have no extra weights on the balancer and the wiehts would be built into the crank. From the factory the 460s of certain years and mabe some of the other big blocks were the main ones that could be either.
