Back up alarm dash switch

I have a 2002 F350 with the rear back up alarm. It seems that it turns itself on and off when I put the truck in reverse. I took the switch out and cleaned it. Is this a common problem? I am guesing that this is a dealer only item. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think I need some clarification to your question. The backup alarm is always set to on. The switch on the dash is the cancel switch. If you are in reverse and do not want to hear it beeping you can cancel it. As soon as you shift to drive and back to reverse the system resets to on which would require you to cancel it again. Is that how yours is working?

You can make it more manual by splicing into the speaker wire and installing a common switch. It will keep the beeping off all the time. The speaker is located in the passenger kick panel.

Yea, did not have enough caffeine when I posted it. The alarm silences itself. I do NOT need to press the on/off button to cancel the annoying beeping. I like the system sicne these things are 412 feet long and are kinda like backing up the Titatnic. I called the local stealership and they can order me one for 38.00.

I have the same problem. I read several threads in here about it. Most of them pointed to the sensors. Recommended removing the sensors and measuring ohms to determine if one is bad. I did that and did not see any significant ohm variances between the four sensors. I would be interested to find out if a new switch fixes your problem.

Ok, if the system is shutting off on it's own, there is a fault. As rad1026 mentions the sensors are the first thing to investigate. With the truck shut off and in reverse (e brake set) you should be able to put your ear by each sensor. You should hear an audible clicking sound. If you find one that isn't clicking you can swap them around. If the problem follows the sensor, you need a new sensor.

If they all appear to be dead, you may have a problem with the Parking Aid Module (PAM). The other thing that will disable the system is a faulty speaker.

try the sensors out and see if that is your problem. If you have access to Autoenginuity you can test the PAM system out with it.

Well, the 38.00 dollar switch from the stealership did not fix the problem. Back to the drawing board.............. Ideas????

Did you check the sensors on the bumper?

My truck did the same thing when I bought it. Had it scanned with a good scanner and it was one bad bumper sensor, changed it and it has been fine for 3 + years. I am going to do the switch mod listed above because I get tired of it buzzing when the camper or snowmobile trailer is back there.

Does anybody have a wiring diagram for the PAM? I'm curious to know if I can use the "Alarm Cancel" switch to "swtich" my Back-up camera off when backing up with a Tow. I have to "cancel" the Back-up alram anyway and the Back-up camera does me no good with a TT hooked up.

What I need is a place to "remove" the 12V on the reverse sense wire to my HU. I could do this with an extenral swtich but don't really want Two (2) switches to have to "FLIP" when backing with a tow.

There isn't any reason you couldn't use that action to cancel the camera too.

Here is the diagram of how the PAM is wired with the switch.

Woodnthings - Thanks. I'll pull the swtich and see how it operates with the PAM module. It looks like it just grounds pin 7 (and must be a momentary switch) which likely sets a flip-flop in the PAM to turn the light on and the Alarm off. Then when you take the Vehicle out of Reverse, the flip flop is reset to turn the light off and the PAM back on.

I can use this technique to do the saem with the Camera Resverse sense wire.
