*#@*% er

so i fiished up the oil pan gasket and replace the oil pump and the rear main seal, i fill it wit 5 qts and start it, no pressure, and before it was high pressure, now the needle dont move, i assume the oil pump driveshaft isnt seated correctly, even tho i thopught it was,

my question is do i have to start over and drop pan, or can i pull distributor to get it back in line, if it is out

You can pull the dist, but it will be a fishing expedition working down in the dist hole. But it would be worth pulling it just in case you can do something with it. Just make sure to mark the position of the dist, and don't turn the engine until you get the dist exactly back in place.

I'm pull the distributor and see if the shaft is in place. If not, well, you're screwed. Technically you could tack the driveshaft to the distributor and futz to get it in the oil pump. I wouldn't but, thechnically you could if you want a quick and dirty way to do it.

Also, double check your wiring to the sensor and gauge, use a machanical gauge if in doubt. If you hav eno oil pressure you'll know it from the noise.

There "should" be a little metal retainer stuck on the shaft that won't let the shaft pull all the way out of the engine. But they can and do slide off and disappear. Some wheel bearing grease on the end of a socket(socket taped onto an extension) may help you out some.

It's a 5/16" hex rod, and it should be in the center of the shiny circle in your picture. I think I may see it in there.

Yeah I see it too, just above the hole. Looks like you missed the hole Sorry to say but looks like your going to have to pull the pan and pump to reposition it. It needs to be in the center of the hole.

Might as well pull the motor and rebuild it while you are at it..... J/K.

Interesting to see if the shaft is bent now.....
